Below is the section in ODF's Use of State Forest Lands rule. Metal detecting itself is not prohibited, however, you are not allowed to remove any found objects that fall under those described in subsection 3(a) below. Sooooo....What does all this mean? Well, it appears that although you can swing your detector in the State Forest, you just can't dig (disturb) anything up, or take anything (historic resource, natural object) home with you (remove). Uhhh, have fun.
