February 2008 Meeting AUDIO FILE

Below is the section in ODF's Use of State Forest Lands rule.  Metal detecting itself is not prohibited, however, you are not allowed to remove any found objects that fall under those described in subsection 3(a) below.  No permits or permission is needed to metal detect.

You are welcome to contact me if you have further questions.

(3) Property and Resources. On all State Forest lands, unless otherwise authorized by the Forester, no person shall:
(a) Deface, disturb, remove or destroy any public property, structures, or any scientific, cultural, archaeological or historic resource, natural object or area;

Sooooo....What does all this mean? Well, it appears that although you can swing your detector in the State Forest, you just

can't dig (disturb) anything up, or take anything  (historic resource, natural object) home with you (remove).

Uhhh,  have fun.
